I remember a senior final recital performed by a very robust student did a very striking juxtaposition with his clothes.
All BUT the last piece, which was the Dante Sonata by Liszt he wore the normal white dress shirt with black pants. The stage lights would come on and he would bow, sit, and perform.
But the last piece he created the best chorography by first turning off ALL the lights including the houselights. The only lights remaining were the emergency lights across the floor leading to the exit.
But as we sat in total darkness, we heard footsteps and could faintly, just very faintly see the silhouette of the pianist's figure come onto stage.
He managed to find his piano stool and still, remember that this is all taking place in next to total darkness.
There was a slight giggle as at first the audience thought that the stage crew forgot to turn on the light. But that was part of the show. When the light turned on, and by light I mean singular, his arms were in a striking positition as if he was casting some arcane power onto the grand Yamaha. This was one spotlight shining on an angle and created a dramatic lighting effect.
More over, he changed into a black dress shirt..all black, black shirt, black pants, blank socks, black shoes. Black Hair.
And so the sonata began.
And it was good.
