Chamber Music Backing Tracks
on: August 13, 2011, 02:57:40 PM
I'm learning the piano part for some Piano Quartets (Schumann, Beethoven and Brahms G minor Op25). I'd like to download a backing track from the internet to practice with - pehaps midi files or something similar. I've tried Music Minus One CDs, but they're not very good for slow practice.
Does anyone else do this on a regular basis? If so, please let me know what you do and link me to whatever websites you use.

This is where a digital piano or even a spare keyboard come into their own because both may feature a 16 track sequencer that allows you to record other parts yourself so that you can play along, with or without a metronome and they allow you to reduce or increase the speed at will. This is a lot easier than searching for specific midi files because you can simply play and record other parts of any piece of music yourself.
I have a digital piano and regularly record other parts, especially when practising concertos for example. It's not a perfect solution but it is certainly useful. It's also useful for separate hand practice too.
