i saw lang lang play the other night

ok i can't remember all your comments on him but i found, though his playing was nice, his movements and facial expression really annoyed me to the point where i couldn't watch him play because his expressions seemed to be a bit artificial and played up to the audience. do you agree?

Ive only seen him in that sample video when he was thirteen, but he looks kind of goofy, and he bobs his head alot.

i was going to see him in concert yesterday, but ended up not getting a ticket =/

from people on the internet, i've heard mostly derogatory things about him (mostly relating to his phsyical gestures), so i've been expecting to hear high-showmanship, low-musical-quality playing from him. but from what i've heard of his playing (mostly bits of the tchaik concerto) i thought it was really pretty good! very original, in a good way. of course, he might be less convincing with other pieces with which he's not as familiar/experienced.. but i've liked what i've heard of his playing so far (and have been therefore slightly scared to voice my opinion of him..  :P )

yeah what really annoyed me was when he would take this sneaky little glance towards the audience in some little 'did you hear that wasn't it great?' sort of way and it just gave me the impression that he wasn't completely into the piece. but when not looking at him the concert was much more enjoyable so i don't really have anything against his playing either
