For those who practice Hanon...

For those who practice Hanon, is it very important to play it as the author says how to do the exercises?

Ie. In the book, it is marked that one has to repeat the first 20 exercises 2 times each one, but you could be more flexible and repeat only once each exercise, can it be valid?

Do yourself a favor and use Dohnanyi or Brahms 51 Exercises, much faster at working the essential problems and not as repetitious as Hanon. Nothing beats scales and arpeggios for finger dexterity either
