Hi everyone,
This is my first post on the forums (I just made an account). I'm 14 and I've been playing piano for almost 10 years now. I am entering in a contest known as the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati I don't know if you have heard about it or not. The competition is separated by level division (starting from 1 which is beginner - going to 12 which is advanced). I am currently doing level 9. I have to play four times in the competition. The first is a local audition which they do in many different cities. I have to play four different pieces of different time periods. I have to have a Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern piece. Along with that I need 2 studies and all major and minor scales. If I get atleast an 85 out of 100 I get to go to the semifinals in Cincinnati. There is a panel of judges and between 5-10 students in each division go on to the finals the next day in Cincinnati. I choose 2 out of the 4 pieces for the semifinals and 1 piece for the finals. The top 3 in each division go on to a performance in Carnegie Hall in New york and get awards over there.
My local audition is in march and the semi-finals/finals are at the end of june, and New York isn't until October of Next Year. I came here just to get some opinions on my repertoire I chose for the competition.
Classical ----- Sonata in F Major (Full) ------- Haydn (First movement finished)
Romantic ----- Nocturne in B ------- Chopin (Just started working on it)
Baroque ------ Bach Invention 3 --------- Bach (Haven't started, but they said if I choose an invention I have to do 2 and I have only picked 1)
Modern ----- Galiiwog's Cakewalk ------- Debussy (Finished)
As you see, besides the Debussy, I choose lesser known pieces so I stand out more. If you can just give me opinions, and possibly give me thoughts on what other invention I choose. Also some ideas on what 2 studies are good. I'm thinking atleast 1 Hanon, and another one.
Thank You
