Hi folks

rather nervous first piano purchase here and im very excited and nervous that ive made the right decision. I really need to get back into playing piano (been 15 years since i sat down and played properly) and teaching my children (5&3) at some point.

I opted for a reconditioned / re built - Made in Japan Yamaha U1, 70's born, fully rebuilt. It's had its insides replaced in Japan by Yamaha factory.

:CABINETS RE POLYESTERD

:CENTRE PINS

:KEY COVERS

:BUSHINGS & FELTS

:PEDALS & HINGES - has 3 pedals

:ACTION

:REGULATION AND FINE TUNING

:NEW SOUND BOARD (its nice and clean and new)

:REPLACED LOOP CORDS

(Sorry for the caps, i cut and paste)

Have i done the right thing  :-\  Cost me £3,500 (gosh, when i write it down i seems loads  :D )

im hoping for a lifetime problem free playing so opted for the Yamaha based on reputation and amongst other things, i like it and so does my 3 year old.

I did check out the Kawai K2, K3 ()(new) and NS 15 (2nd hand) and also one called sandner !(i think) and a Bently 115, but could not decide on new v old quality for a while, eventually opted for a quality second hand yamaha.

Is this about right price? have i paid too much (in UK)

Welcome Rusty,
In comparison to the other choices you mentioned, the Yamaha was the right choice.  I'm not sure, being in the U.S., but the price seems good. Although I'm a big fan of Yamaha. Just curious why the strings weren't replaced too?

I have had a look inside, the chap was eager to show me the shiny-ness of it. I actually thought it was brand new.

i like to think im helping save the environment a wee bit  8)

(im getting a free adjustable stool, free delivery and he is putting on soft close on the fall board for me too )

At the end of it all it's your choice. I'd still go with the Yamaha but that's me.
After a few weeks get ready to have it tuned.
