What is the difference in this rhythm?
on: September 16, 2011, 12:52:02 AM
Beethoven op 49 no 2 sonata in G. In the first and fifth measures the right hand plays two sets of 3 notes per beat, one set has a 3 under it and the other set doesn't. I was told there was a difference in the rhythm between these two sets but am not sure what. This shows up various times in this piece so I'm assuming there is a difference I just always played them both the same way. So I'm just curious what is the difference?

They are the same rhythm. Whoever told they are different either hasn't seen the music or can't count.
When in doubt, count the beats in the measure to make sure they add up to the right number indicated by the time signature.
