Limited time for practice
on: September 16, 2011, 02:04:09 AM
So here's the deal, I am about to start working and will only have about 2-4 hours a day to practice from Monday to Friday. Not to mention that I will be feeling a bit tired coming home from work and all. I just wanted to ask if anyone else is in a similar situation I am in?
P.S. My work is not related to music at all
*Edit: Forgot to ask, is the time enough for study?

I am! I need large amount of practice but there're just too many distractions and restrictions for it. I like doing things intensively, but the time available for practice is too scattering. I'm still trying to learn to calm down to fully concentrate whenever I get the time to play ..sigh...
2~4 hours are generally enough for study I think(2 hours may be slightly short if you've reached a level like, intermediate), but you have to keep it constant, everyday. the two days' absense at weekends can really slow down your progress.

come on. for an intermediate ? If you work simulatenously on 20 pages of music, maybe. Now if you are learning 2 or 3 pieces of music (say 10 pages of music), you can get away with 1h/1h30 a day if you are efficient because you manage to keep maximum concentration when you are at the piano.

If all you want to do is get better at playing the piano then 2 to 4 hours a day is plenty. Learning repertoire is where loads of time comes in. Obviously you could spend the whole day learning pieces. Spend your 2 to 4 hours improving your skills and then and if you have more time learn more Pieces.
