Question about my Casio Privia PX-330
on: October 05, 2011, 02:11:27 AM
Okay, so I think I might be losing my mind over this, just warning in advance. ...

I have had a casio px-330 for 2 months and been very happy with it. When I first got it, the action seemed medium-heavy. (Something I liked about the keyboard). Now lately, the keys seem lighter to me, I can't say with 100% certainty, but they actually seem much lighter.

Can it just be that a have developed more finger strength and the keys are just normal now?

OR

Could it actually be that for whatever reason the keys have internally gotten easier to the touch.

This just seems so weird, it feels like a different keyboard than it did just a week ago, let alone when I first got it.

:(   any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Coffee,
I don't have a Casio but I have experienced what you're talking about.
I play three different Yamaha keyboards along with an Alesis Micron synth on gigs and at one place where I play at they have a C5 grand for me to use.
They all feel different to me but at different times. All I can figure out is my fingers gain a mixture of strength and agility.
After a few weeks of not playing so much the action on my keyboards feel heavy again.
A good keyboard shouldn't loose action...

Jim,

thanks for your responce. I have been practing 3-5 hours daily, so I think you may be correct about an increase of finger /strength and agility(Hopefully). There is an old upright at my teacher's studio that I played today and it too felt lighter to the touch than I remeber the last time I played it. I am hoping I am just improving :) It does seem odd that this seemed to happen out of nowhere.

Coffee,
Are you getting faster?
When I started to improve I noticed that the keys felt lighter but that's natural because you're hitting softer but with more accuracy...

Jim,

yes I am playing faster. Seems like much faster. Songs, scales, Hanon exercises, etc. I thought it's because the action on the keyboard got lighter  :o

I honestly don't know... I do appreciate the feedback... I might have to have someone look at the thing just to set my mind at ease. Id'd hate to think my playing is improving only to find out that the actions has gone faulty  :-\

I'm sure it's because you're getting better...

You see "function" button, click on it.
They have a option, select weighted / touch on key from : 1 - 3. Maybe you or someone set it back to 1.

Default is 2. I always set it to 3, for feel more heavier.

This was going to be my response as well. However, just check it anyway but I think the OP's fingers are getting stronger. The proof is in the upright feeling different as well.

Depressing the pedal on an out of tune acoustic piano and playing does not result in tonal color control or add interest, it's called obnoxious.
