Hi -

My in-laws have an upright Steigerman piano that they bought in Hong Kong in 1963.

I am going to post to craigslist to see if someone would like it and would like to provide all information including model number and serial number (if any).

Can someone tell me where to look for the numbers?

Thanks much!

Serial #'s can often be found stamped on the frame under the top lid. Then of course, some manufacturers get really creative when it comes to hiding it, like under the keys on the keybed, the back of the soundboard, behind the kneeboard. Could be anywhere ::), but I'd try the top of the frame first.

If you think it's is expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.

It's interesting to see a Steigerman piano coming from Hong Kong.  As a Canadian tech, my experience with the Steigerman name is that they are pianos imported into Canada by Loewen Pianos, coming from various manufacturers.  The first ones, as far as I know, came during the 60's and were Yamahas.  In these pianos, the Steigerman name appeared only on the fallboard above the keys.  The Yamaha name and logo were visible in the steel plate inside the piano.  If you see the name Nippon Gakki instead of Yamaha, it's still a Yamaha.

If indeed this is what you are dealing with, the advice from earlier posts about where to find the model and serial numbers is good.
