C. Walter console... good value for 2050 USD?
on: October 13, 2011, 09:49:19 AM
Hi!

Living in France I have the opportunity to buy a C. Walter Console Queen Ann, 10 years old bought in the US and brought back to France by her owner for her daughter who does not care for i tanymore.
The piano has a good sound, though not tuned since 2002 .
The owner asks for 2050 USD.
I think it's a bit overpriced.
What would be the cost of such a second hand piano in the US?

Thanks for answering.

I have a Walter and think its a well made piano. Mine is a 2004 bought new. At that time, it the list price was around 8,000 US. I negotiated to 5400 plus tax....so around 6K out the door.

For the pianos age and to assume (bad assumption. quite impossible on the web) its in good shape, I think that is a very fair price, however, not tuned since 2002 speaks of neglect to me. It will need a pitch raise at least.

The Walter now lists for around 11K (according to some local shops. That could be a make up number but pianos to usually average going up in price appx. 5% per year) and with my negotiating skills  ;D I could probably walk with a new one for 7500.

Have it checked out. I know I would want at least 3500 for mine if I sold it, tuned more than every season and already regulated twice.
