Tested the N2 Yamaha yesterday
on: October 23, 2011, 06:38:56 AM
Just to report my feedback on the rarely tested N2 digital yamaha.
This is the first time I had the opportunity to play on the N2, extremely hard to find here in Switzerland. My experience so far for the last 15 years was a Clavinova.
Since I visited 4 piano shops in the last month
, I had also the experience of playing on Grands (Steinway, Bosendorfer, Fazioli, Yamaha, etc). Basically, yesterday I tested the pianos by playing 2 pieces: nocturn 1st Chopin and 3rd movt moonlight Beethoven.
Clearly I wanted to buy the N2 because I can control the volume,it does not take much space, no tuning, and I am very happy with my Clavinova. I am also a quite rationale guy and quite objective individual
so I am very open minded to digital world and how it compares to the traditional mechanical piano. I have no problem with the idea that a digitial piano could outperform an acoustic one in every way, except weight and price.
Well, I must say the N2 was fine.... But the other acoustic grands I tested were much superior to the N2
, including the Yam acoustic Grands (which have the same mechanic as the N2), touch on the N2 was actually harder, less "efficient" (ratio force / sound), lower contrast between ppp and fff. Steinway won.
Moreover the N2 had no violin sound, which the Clavinova has, this is a pity because I use sometimes the mix between piano and violin on the Clp.
Don't know what to buy now, I am going to go on playing in shops
