College Digital Piano... which one do you think?
on: October 26, 2011, 05:53:02 AM
Dear Pianostreet,

Currently in Australia and tasked with purchasing a digital piano for my college at Melbourne University. Budget is $1,500 AUD and isn't negotiable as it's part of the Students' Club money (so there isn't much of it).

I have two options:

1. Yamaha YDP135 - $1200 https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/musical-instruments/keyboards/digitalpianos/arius_series/ydp-135r/?mode=model

2. Kawai KDP80 - $1200  https://www.kawai.net.au/_webapp_413713/KDP80_Digital_Piano

What would you suggest? The Yamaha or the Kawai? I'm looking for something quite robust but also somewhat portable. Would you suggest any other brands or makes?

Cheers,

Tom.

Tom,
Welcome to the forum.
I would for sure go with the Yamaha. I play on several and I'm a big fan of Yamaha. I don't have a YPD 135 but I've played one. Very nice...

I'm not familiar with that Kawai.

But that Yamaha YDP135 has their GHS keyboard action. Horrible. Don't even consider it.

Does Yamaha offer the YDP161 in Australia? It has the GH keyboard action. Much better. Much.

Actually the best Yamaha DP that I know of is the CP5 but now we're talking bucks...
