Music for silent film accompaniment
on: November 02, 2011, 04:28:51 PM
I'm looking for suitable, preferably free, suggestions for pieces which might be useful for accompanying silent films.
Also, if anybody happens to know - Charlie Chaplin wrote a lot of his own film scores, I'm assuming they're still in copyright but am wondering if anybody knows if sheet music is in print for any of his scores? Either piano or orchestral, not bothered which.
Thanks!

Scott Joplin's Rags seem to be adequate.
Best regards, Dr

to the best of my knowledge these should be public domain,
Gottschalk : Columbia, RO 61, Op.34, "Caprice Américain"
Gottschalk : Forest Glade Polka (Les Follets), RO 98, Op.25, "Polka Brillante"
sorry if that doesn't help, having a hard time wrapping my brain around exactly what you're looking for as in style and appropriateness.
