-Hebrides Overture (Fingal's Cave)
-Rondo Cappricioso
-Variations Seriuse (spelling?)
-Italian Symphony (genius)
-And of course the violin concerto (don't mind the piano concertos either, as I'm playing one)

Overture to "A Midsummer Night's dream".  Hard to believe it was composed by a 16 year old !!

I just love saying his name with an accent like the Scarlet Pimpernell's. Baaartholdy. Rondo Capricioso is great! I like the first mvt. of the fantasy too.

Supposedly there's a piano transcription of his Hebrides Overture out there somewhere...  Someone performed it in the Boston Piano Amateurs 2003 piano competition (www.bostonpianoamateurs.org).

After doing some searching, I found a book, "Favorite Classical Themes," that does contain a transcribed Hebrides, but it looks really basic --- I can't imagine that it's the same version someone played for that competition, though, based on the other repertoire performed.

Anyone know?

I don't know of the competition, so obviously I've got no way of knowing if this was the piece the pianist played, but the only non-basic transcription I've seen of the Hebrides Overture is by Heller, and is the first (Etude caprice) in the set 'Two Caprices on themes by Felix Mendelssohn, Op. 144'. I've never found time to try it out at the piano, but the score looks fairly heavy duty.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'.
