musical "icebreakers" for event with piano students and potential students
on: November 07, 2011, 05:27:40 PM
Our piano dept. is planning an event for potential piano students who would like to meet our students and teachers. Teachers will play piano duets, six hands and two pianos. Our piano students will play also. I'm looking for some activity (preferably musical) that both sets of kids could enjoy together. Any ideas?

Will it be possible for everyone there to sit at a piano or keyboard, maybe by having 3 or 4 people to a piano? If so it would be great to play a piece any number of people can take part in, for example Terry Riley's In C.

Now wouldn't that be a little squashy? Maybe a student recital by select students to demonstrate what they did accomplish and to send a message to potential students they can be like them if they take the piano. Or maybe that's a bad idea because that's like intimidating a ptential student......

Thanks for your ideas. We have the musical side worked out. the teachers are playing as much fun things as possible (some six hands and duets) and the students will play some short solo pieces or chamber music (little pieces with flute and/or violin. i just thought it would be nice to have some sort of game or social activity that could connect the present students with the potential ones. In the end we'll probably just have a question and answer session if I can't think of anything. All the same if anyone DOES have an idea Iwould be delighted to hear them. Thanks again.!!

Maybe even a trivia type of thing or students/teachers telling anecdotes?
