Ernesto Lecuona
on: September 05, 2004, 08:48:54 AM
OK! I've seen countless posts with people who are in search of "Show off pieces" "Pieces to impress!" ... Most of the people who request these pieces on this forum aren't capable of playing the TOUGHEST stuff... i. e Rachmaninoff Sonata No. 2 Third movement... stuff like that...

-Take my advice and look into "the almost unheard of" Ernesto Lecuona... who is notorious for his dazzling pieces which range in difficulty! If you take the time to buy a recording... or a book... and look through it, you will really relize how great he is.

Lecuona mixes Contemporary- Romantic... with the blend of his culture of cuba, to create some incredible music... His most frequently played piece, and most popular at that is none other than "Malaguena."uhave probably heard this piece some time before actually! Lecuona's music has been played frequently in films and movies... in multiple soundtracks.

I really urge the people after the pieces that are fun to learn and will please ANY audience... to really look into Ernesto Lecuona! He has many piano solo's ranging in skill... from beginers to more advance pianists...

Here is a list of pieces... my favorites with #1 being my favorite.

1. Aragonesa
2. Malaguena
3. Aragon
4. Ante El Escorial
5. Gitenerias
6. San francisco el grande
7. Rhapsodia Negra
8. En Tres per Cuatro
9. Por que te vas?

Many many more...
-I believe every piece in his "andalucia" suit is astounding!

Those of you who HAVE heard of Lecuona... know exactly how great he is.. and what an advantage for pianists he is. Lecuona is truly something to have in your repotoire!!!

Thanks to Bernhard and Darkwind, I have ordered the Andalucia Suite from sheetmusicplus.  I plan to learn Malaguena.

-Have you ever heard the piece Aragon from Andalucia suite?

Is it just me.. or does the middle section sound like "waltz of the flowers" .... i mean... it sounds exact actually...

I dont know Aragon....And I dont think that is part of the Andalucia Suite.  The andalucia Suite consists of Cordoba, Andalucia, Alhambra, Gitanerias, Guadalquivir, and Malaguena, if I am not mistaken.  I dont have all of the suite on CD- I am missing Alhambra and Guadalquivir.  Do you have these?

My older brother played Malaguenua, he said it was easy, but I think he got sick of it kind of soon. Anyway, I was looking at the music, and it looks relatively simple, but fun.

Aragon also known as Vals Espanol

yes, absolutely!  Just copy it onto your computer using windows media player, and attach it in an email.  If you use yahoo, you can attach anything up to 10 MB.

I don't have a recording, but I can tell you the Guadalquivir, in my opinion, is the best of the suite. Anyways, if it tell you anything, on my iPod, the 7 to 11th pieces are Lecuona, out of 1,400+ pieces. Lecuona is awesome, but hard to find stuff of his.
