First etude to learn..?
on: November 10, 2011, 09:21:26 PM
I've never learned an etude as of now and I'm planning on changing that. Could I get some suggestions on some good etudes around level 5-8?

Edit: I'm leaning towards one of Prokofiev's.. not sure which one though.. but any suggestions are welcome
You may have noticed that I'm not all there myself

i had a very good long response but the system crashed and deleted it.

i'll use the short version, first find what speaks to you musically, then align it with your goals for learning the etude, then narrow the field based on current ability and guidance and instruction you'll recieve (i.e. on your own? with a good teacher?), etc.

i really like these, and i seldom see or hear them performed lately
i.e no 1

Wouldn't the Debussy etudes be too hard? maybe you can try some Burgmuller, Heller, Cramer, Moskowski, Scarlatti sonatas, and so on. They have enough technical and musical quality and are worthy of study, in my opinion.
Funny? How? How am I funny?
