Beethoven op 27 no 2, 3rd mvt
on: November 17, 2011, 03:16:22 AM
Ok, here I go again. This first upload is really meant, again, to help me overcome my fear of others hearing me. I've been working on this piece for a while. Kind of stumble here and there, but mostly it is coming together. My intent is to post a less nervous version when I can. Remember, I'm here to learn, so any constructive criticism you can come up with, I would greatly appreciate.

Well I don't find anything 'bad' in this recording. You have this under control and now probably work on the expression. For the arpeggios in the beginning I think maybe try abit of crescendo and maybe make it sound abit tempestuous because many of the recordings that I hear about this piece are  moderately loud to loud at the beginning. During the middle sections where the arpeggios return, try to make a 'fuller sound'. You are fine with suppresing the accompaniments but I don't think has to be suppressed too much. For the other sections, try working on a richer tone. well obviously you are still working on this piece so you may have already realized the pointers already. Excellent job anyway.

I haven't played this piece so my advice may not be helpful.  :'(
Funny? How? How am I funny?

One thing I remember having trouble with when working with my professor back in college on this piece was those chordy oom-pa-pa-pa oom-pa-pa-pa parts. There are some notes that are marked as legato, but sometimes these figures share a note. I'm currently doing it with pedal and holding down the shared note. This sounds alright, but I remember my professor trying to get me to do it some other way, and I don't think I ever got it. If anybody understands what he may have been trying to tell me, I'd like to attempt to learn it. (or maybe I can find lessons around here from someone as qualified as him at some point).

Another thing I could always use advice on is pedal. On the pieces I've been working on lately I've been a bit cavalier with pedal, especially in Op 27 no 1, mvt 1.

Thanks for your thoughts.
