Need Help with Glissandi
on: September 06, 2004, 07:58:22 PM
What fingers/part of the hand/ ect... do you use when doing the following glissandi?:

left hand going up the keyboard
right hand going down the keyboard
and
both hands going up the keyboard an octave apart

Also, how do you get a big accent at the top or bottom of a glissando and how do you hit a big chord with a accent at the end of an upward gliss?
Thanks,
DLu

I asked a similar question when I was working on Liszt's Totentanz.  People responded, and I decided to do this:

RH going up: back of nails of 3,4 fingers
LH going up: back of thumb nail
RH going down: back of thumbnail for slow glissando, back of 2,3 fingernails for fast glissando

I can only really do the accent when coming up the keyboard- I stamp the thumb down just as the 3,4fingernails are finishing.
