Steinway Experts? Need info on old V Upright
on: November 24, 2011, 03:56:43 PM
My in laws purchased a 1917 Steinway V upright mostly for the looks. Wondering is there any value to collectors for this model? Could they find a buyer/ refinisher easily? Also, is there a way to figure out where this model was made? Thanks for any info and Happy Thanksgiving to all on this forum.
Serial 183120 "V" (Puts it at 1917 from what I've seen) another number on the harp was
T 4123

Whereas most pre-depression uprights are posted "free haul it away please" on craigslist, the Steinway uprights are going for up to $500. Never heard one, myself.  I can move a console with 1 helper but my upright moving days are over.  I've got a 1941 40" console I bought off CL in 2010, a really good sounding piano that holds pitch very well.  I Last tuned it the seventh time the month after  I bought it. That is my only Steinway experience, other than admiring the tone from a distance.
I'd rather have a quality 100 year old upright at the front of the church now than the new muddy soft *****a 44" console they bought 8 years ago.
