vimeo plus piano street
on: December 03, 2011, 03:27:25 PM
i posted this as a reply to my test audition room post but this is probably the better place to let this question hang around,

i have my performances from the past (and planned for the futre) uploaded to vimeo (i like you tube as a user but don't upload my videos to yt, i strongly prefer vimeo)

my vimeo controls have embed functions and are flash compatible, is there a way to embed these videos into a post say in the audition room like we can with youtube? i treid the flash button, could not get it to work but don't know if maybe it was user error.

any help is appreciated.

As far as I know you can only embed with youtube because pianostreet only has that function. you can insert a hyperlink, the next best thing.

bumpiddy bumpitty bump da bump.

can we get an vimeo embed function added to the icons? i know vimeo tells me i can embed (i.e flash enabled?) but they don't seem to work here, however bloggers have direct embeds in their posts all the time. there are some darn good viddys on vimeo and in general i much prefer their site to yt (mainly due to there being less jerks in general over there).

if it's not a cost or time constraint can we get that functionality added to pianostreet?

Vimeo is not that big a video sharing site, in fact I doubt it is bigger than Metacafe or Daily motion. Youtube is the only option. Could some icon/function be installed some how so that any videos from any video sharing sites be embedded?

I have experience on both Vimeo and Metacafe and Vimeo is about 100% better IMO. And because it is not so popular as YouTube, there's less junk. The video quality is excellent.

If I ever get my playing to a level that I feel like posting videos I certainly would like to use my Vimeo account :)

Ads I understand, I think youtube appeals more to people than say Vimeo because it is popular, convenient and you can find almost anything there. Enrique, I think this is a plausible explanation for why so few people have been viewing your videos in pianostreet: Vimeo is not that popular and people would have expected you to post one on youtube.

it's a legitamate point. be that as it may, the request this go around is more general in nature, i simply rather like vimeo over all as a user and like mentioned above the video play back quality is great overall, it isn't as glitchy or tempermental as yt sometimes.  i just thought it would help with variety, i mean the hyperlinks works well and all i just was hoping to be able to ebmed directly.

on a side note, this dude did a nice job with this piece, just a cool random piano viddy if anyone is interested

ps you're right about the ads, it has gotten out of hand over at yt latelty, it's like almost more commercials and such than videos, almost...

pss jl if you're interested in this piece i think i have backed up copy i can probably pm/email you message me later if you're interested i need to check my archives after class (i know i have the book but don't remember if iscanned/backed up yet)

Perhaps the vimeo users are yotuube migrants who hated youtube for their playback quality and so resolved to make vimeo a more quality video sharing site.  ;D I agree, the youtube clips often stop a millisecond before resuming. Far out! It stops the continuity. Sync is a also a problem I found in youtube. Perhaps it is a common problem with all vidoes, afterall.

On a different note...I am interested in the sheet music. PM please.  :D

Thx, Enrique.

p.s. I think it makes no difference where you psot because in every video sharing site there must be many videos with many glitches. Perhaps the more videos the site, the more glitches it will have the videos you watch. But I prefer yotuube.

I can confirm, both with existing content and video I have recently uploaded to both, the bit rate or compression coding, or some combo do consistently make for much better quality at vimeo vs yt. yt has made some improvements lately but it's source dependent, ie those w/ premium accounts or the ability to upload 4k content and users w the badnwidth to access it smoothly, however for basic hd 720p or 1080p vimeo whoops up on youtube.

other sites i have visited have the ability to embed vimeo content , so it 'can be done'

would love for the site to have an embed function for that stuff like outin shared in the past. i know it's an ancinet thread i'm new to it but i am one of those strange ones that actually uses the search function before creating a thread since i'm not naive enough to believe my idea has to be the first/ground breaking unique though on a said topic   :P
