good way to video tape with high quality sound?
on: September 09, 2004, 06:31:18 AM
Have any of you had to have a video tape to send in for competitions or auditions? How did you do it?
I was thinking of recording the piano seperately with good equipment, and then synching it up with the video (of the same performance) from a normal camcorder. How feasible do you think this is?
Thanks!

oooohhh sounds like he's going all Alfred Hitchcock on us!
Im sure it's possible, and you probably dont need expensive equipment to synch it. Someone here will probably help you, but maybe you should call up FutureShop or BestBuy to ask about how to do it.

YEah, I think I can just put both the video and audio on my computer and do it like that. Although, it might be a freakin huge file. About 35 minutes of video. But this is still going to end up on a video tape in the end. On a DVD, the transfered quality would be perfect. This way, I'd probably have to copy the DVD from my VCR, but I think their is sometype of copy protection that DVD players have. Gets complicated, I'm going to go ask this on a computer forum too.
Can anyone recommend a good computer program to do something like that?

For synching the audio and video, I'd use virtual dub:
https://www.virtualdub.org
It's free and a nice program.
There wont be any issues with copying to/from the dvd. That's only for commercial movies.

Does anyone know of a digital camcorder in which you can turn the automatic gain control off? (that's also affordable!)
