The Most Famous Orange Dress Ever?
on: December 23, 2011, 06:29:05 PM
;D  Human beings never fail to amaze me with the things they choose to concern themselves!

How critics can get wound up by an attractive young woman playing classical piano in a short dress defies belief?  It is not as if this really sells newspapers these days is it?

I love Yuja whatever she chooses to wear and it is her choice.  If women choose to perform,  dressed in very masculine clothes, I don't really care, although I prefer it when women choose to celebrate their femeninity - I certainly wouldn't write about their attire if I were writing a review for a newspaper though.

If Lang Lang had worn that dress, maybe it would be cause for some eyebrow raising - and only then to a  point -(though obviously he wouldn't look so good in it as Yuja!- - but if his playing pleased, who cares?  Will humans never grow up as a species - ??

Nah.

No that dress in the video is not orange for sure! It's like purple or something.  :P But I think they were talking about some other dress... but I didn't feel like reading all of that so I don't know for sure.  :P

yeah the whole up in arms is silly, but the 'artmusic' crowd can be a big bunch of stuffy old conservative hogies sometimes so meh, it's to be expected when someone rocks the boat a little. i have no issues with it.  it's part of putting on an enjoyable live performance, the visuals can and should be part of the package, if you're momma gave it to you, use it as you deem fit i suppose. i think this is the famous orange mentioned (attached)

this reminds me of misc pic i came across a while back, i found myself asking is this young lady the pianist, the techinician just finished checking the actions, a page turner?....i can only imagine the aneurisms folks would have if she just just finished playing a flawless masterpiece lol

That video almost screwed up my computer.  I got out of it quick.  I have never seen eve Queller conduct.  but from the article it seems she wore dresses or evening gowns.  I have NEVER seen a woman conductor wear a dress.  They always wear a tail type suit.  That can be very sexy on a woman.  but why do they have to wear pants?!  I think it would be fun to see a woman conductor all decked out in jewels and and evening gown.   ;D

Ah yes, East Coast, West Coast ideas clash...

First of all this took place st the HOLLYWOOD bowl, where the patrons are eating box dinners and getting drunk on their own booze. It's more of a party then a concert. The orchestra is providing background music. Sometimes the conversation is louder than the music.

Actually you shouldn't listen too carefully at those shows because the orchestra only gets 8 hours of rehearsal for each performance. Basically they are sight reading. The acoustics are terrible and if you want a decent performance everybody on stage must wear earphones.

I have seen Yuja in concert.  Evening concert in a concert hall, the orchestra and conductor in their tails, she walks out in this brightly-colored outfit not unlike the ones referenced in the article.  It certainly made a statement.  When the music started, the dress was only an afterthought.

The article also mentioned Cameron Carpenter.  His wardrobe can be the topic of conversation.  But for someone who can play like this, who cares what he is wearing:
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
