Looking for a Piano Teacher for my 5 year old daughter
on: December 26, 2011, 06:02:23 PM
I'm thinking about starting my 5 year old girl with piano lessons. I live in Fairfield County, CT. I'm wondering if anyone here lives in my area and can recommend a piano teacher. I'm looking for someone who is experienced, specializes on teaching children classic music and easy to communicate.

I'm wondering where I can get a list of local piano teachers. I've searched online but only found one or two names one each site, with a few specializing on Jazz music.

I'm new to piano and this forum. I'd appreciate any idea you can give me. Thanks a lot.

Have you tried searching craigslist.org for piano teachers?  Since you live in a busy area of the country you should have little trouble finding a qualified piano instructor there. :)

I did try craigslist but found only 2. One specializes on Jazz which is not what I'm looking for. The other I'll call for an interview. I know there must be many teachers out there I just don't know where to find them. Looks they don't get online that much. Maybe I should try local music schools or piano stores.

That's actually a great idea.  The music shops around where I live (central Illinois) almost always offer lessons, and I know at least one of them nearby has a whole building next to the music shop dedicated to giving lessons.

Try looking for your local chapter of Registered Music Teachers or musicians union.

There are a lot of excellent teachers that do very minimal advertising because word-of-mouth often spreads the news very well.  Try talking to music professionals for recommendations.  Music stores who's employees work in the industry, registered piano technicians, orchestra members, church organists, etc.  You may also wish to talk to college professors - while they may not have space for you in their studio, the may know someone that does.

You may also wish to consider group courses that specialize in techniques for introducing very young children to music.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
