What would 3D internet look like?
on: January 10, 2012, 01:08:46 AM
I keep seeing TVs in 3D.  Movies are in 3D a lot.  I would imagine if all that becomes 3D the internet would be too, computer screens.

Except most is just text.  I suppose they could touch things up.  Maybe a news article actually looks like a piece of newspaper.  That would make this current stuff look pretty crappy.  Videos in 3D.

I don't see a huge *need* for 3D for text though just to dress things up.  I think text would essentially be the same.  The only thing it would be adding to is something that's already visual -- pictures or movies.

I imagine webpages will be a little more interactive and fluid in changes too.  3D could help that.

What else would there be?

Holographic displays. That'll be cool, particularly like the JARVIS computer in Ironman. Perhaps we can be in a world of our own without going out.
Funny? How? How am I funny?

Ah, yes.  If it was a touchscreen too maybe.  Actually have 3D buttons to press.

Although I've heard touchscreen won't fly with regular computer screens.  People don't want to wear their arm out, extending it to touch the screen.

man i hope not, all the krap gives me the biggest headache. i had a discussion with one of my physiology professors about this when were were deep into neuro, that stuff messes with how our brains process visual information and tries to trick it by makes us 'fill in the blank' so to speak with information that really is not there (i.e. reaching the visual neural centers), it all doesn't sound to kosher in the long term for chronic exposure to the stuff, thanks but no thanks i'll take my 2D and save my headache medicine money.

Yeah... A 3D vacation!

Maybe one in 'actual' reality.  It's like virtual reality, only with higher resolution and smell.  Which isn't always a good thing.

my guess and hope is that as we approach ultra high definition we won't need it, i.e. below, 16x the resolution of current HD (producing an essentially 33 MP image), broadcast technology is slated to be here aroun 2020, it looks 3d without it having to be 3 D

I don't like to watch 3D movies. I feel dizzy. I prefer the traditional movies. But I really wonder about this 3D internet.

CES 2012 is going on right now.  Perhaps we shall know pretty soon how much 3D we will be in for this year.
