Recording?
on: February 02, 2012, 05:43:51 AM
I am a beginner when it comes to recording. I have a nice keyboard, however all I have is a standard vocal microphone, a stand, and a guitar amp. Is there a way to reduce excess noise during the recording process? I record directly to my laptop, and I don't have any editing programs. Not a lot to work with, but any tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

I use free auduacity program from the net. All free. Get a betetr mic and amp will give a better sound quality and hiss.

It would help if you gave more detail as to what you would like to record.  Do you want the direct sound of your keyboard, or would you prefer the sound of your amp?  Do you want to record vocals as well?

If you just want the direct sound of your keyboard, you could use its line out and patch that to the line in on your computer.  If your computer does not have a line in you will need a soundcard, or better an audio interface to accept that.

If you want to get into microphones here are some threads that could help:

Thread I created when I was on my own microphone search:

Audacity as mentioned above:
