Repeats in Haydn Sonatas
on: February 12, 2012, 04:31:25 AM
Lately I've been working on Haydn's Sonata hob xvi 23 and I was wondering, would you all advise that I play the repeats? It seems in classical sonatas there are usually many repeats and they end up making the piece much longer. So, how necessary are those in performances? Because I see some performers don't use them.

It just depends. If I play a recital, I play the repeats. In competitions or contests, usually no repeats.
