How to order sheet music in bulk
on: February 17, 2012, 12:32:15 AM
I have decided that I use many of the same books for my students and could save them some time (and make me some money) if I begin buying the books in bulk. Problem is, I've never ordered anything in bulk before. I don't know where to go (i.e. website).
Any insights?

International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP) ?
Copys for free.
I don't know anything about this though, but my guess is eBay, perhaps it's easier to talk some seller there to lower prizes if you buy in bulk, more so than a company with certainly someone telling them what they can/cannot do.
Again, don't know though!

I assume you would have to contact the publisher and try to arrange a wholesale supply.. just as if you were a retail music store (which is essentially what you are talking about doing).
I suspect the required quantities may be beyond what you would want though in order to actually get any level of discounted price from just going to any retailer.
You probably have to order a large initial supply and agree to reorder regularly if you want to maintain status as a wholesale buyer. Though in saying that, this is not an industry in which I have ever attempt to buy anything wholesale, it may well operate differently.

In the US, I highly recommend Burt & Co. in New Jersey (they ship).
Standard discount is 25% I believe, with up to 40% discounts on pedagogical materials if you are a super high volume customer. Could almost be worthwhile to join up with a few other teachers and place your orders together in order to be eligible for the 40% discount.
