Steinway and Sons Square Pianoforte - Year 1878

Steinway and Sons Square Pianoforte Serial number 39386 Year 1878
A Steinway and Sons Square pianoforte serial number 39386 being finished in Long Island, New York City September 27, 1878. Beautiful made case of American Walnut having 7 octaves 85 notes.

I think I played one of these in the music room at the Mission Inn, Riverside in the late 40's. At that time it seemed in pretty good condition.
The Inn also featured a pipe organ in a larger hall.
It was considered bad taste if you didn't play "When you come to the end of a perfect day" by Carrie Jacobs Bond when you sat down at either instrument.
