Tempo for Clair de Lune
on: March 22, 2012, 08:06:02 AM
Hi Everyone,

I am not sure how fast to play the middle section of Clair de Lune. I have heard some people play it rather slowly and thoughtfully (which I like very much). And others play it fast. I have attached a video of myself playing it at the speed I've been doing lately. My question is about my tempo and general feel, but other comments about my playing are welcome also, keeping in mind that this is a work in progress.  :D

Thanks. :)

Thanks for posting your smooth playing of this piece!  This was my mom's favorite piece!  I can't comment on tempo, but I enjoyed your playing it!  Brought back memories for me.   :)

Just a suggestion, move this over to the audition room.  I don't know if you'll get a lot of feedback in the student section.  Your playing is very nice and belongs over there!  ;)
What's up with the dice on the piano?  Practicing craps for a Vegas trip? :D
The piano sounds nice.  What kind is it?

Tempo is fine, it could be a little slower if you like, but I wouldn't play it any faster. I have trouble hearing the melody notes sing out on top, but could just be the recording. Good job!

Thank you, flyinfingers - you are too kind! Perhaps I will upload the entire piece and post it in the audition room.

The dice are for my students. When I want them to repeat something, we make it a game. It's always one line or less, either RH LH or HT, and they have to get it right or we don't count it. If they roll a one, they are so proud of themselves and happy to be off the hook. If they roll a six, they act disappointed but I am convinced that they like the challenge. Hmmm, a vegas trip sounds nice, though . . .

The piano is a Kohler. My tuner told me it was "cheap", but I love the way it sounds - maybe because it's the piano from my childhood. :)

Thank you cjp_piano! That helps. I've played it too many times and needed a fresh perspective. I will probably slow it down just a bit and concentrate on bringing out the melody. The recording is not great, but I don't think it's the reason the melody is not heard. I can do better. Thanks again. :)
