Quentin Kim - Four Preludes
on: March 23, 2012, 10:20:43 PM
here are four preludes by quentin kim, very short pieces in a sort of early scriabin vein, i venture to say.  they are:
I. Leggiero e languido in E
II. Patetico in c#
III. Molto dolce in B
IV. Fantasmagorico in g#
wonderful nostalgic or fantastic music, esp. the last one which is very difficult to clarify all the hidden counterpoint and achieve a lightness of touch.  probalby i could have played it lighter still..
thesea re new pieces, completed within the last 2 years or so.

if you are interested in quentin's music, i also recorded here his 4-mvmt excellent sonata:

and his variations on an ancient korean melody which i love, and which are a bit simpler than these other pieces:

Enjoy!

You are doing a really great job at introducing me as a listener into this composer's works!
I think your playing will be a sort of landmark to me in the future, when it comes to Quentin Kim's compositions!

Masterful writing. You play this music with great love -it deserves to be played more.
When a search is in progress, something will be found.

Very interesting and I'm glad you shared these with us. I like the second the best, and I hear little echoes of medtner's march of the paladin which I know you have played here in the past. I'd love to peruse these scores if they are available but i certainly respect the author and wouldn't want to trample his rights.

so glad you all lked these. to me they are examples of the shortest kind of pieces that have the most impact. you can feel it when you play them, they are very satisfying, and difficult in their own way to shape, since you have so little time to do it.

i will see if he doesn't mind having the score sent out, and send you a message.
