on: September 23, 2004, 01:11:52 PM
i want to learn to play the piano and want to buy a piano. can anyone tell me what the best upright piano is for not more than 4000 usd/euro.
i want to play jazz, funk, soul and off course motown maybe a little rock(like keane).
I want a rich and warm sound.
I like old instruments, but i don't know if it's better to buy a new piano.
can anyone help me

4000$ US will get you a very nice Yamaha upright.  If you want good sound, go for the taller ones.
If it were me, I would pay a little more and try the Petrof uprights, which feel really nice, but for your purposes (eg. rock, jazz), Yamaha will do just fine.
Preferences differ with each pianist.  Do your research and see what suits you best.

At least it sounds like you're not a cheap skate going "oh I want something that sounds like a Steinway I wanna invest all my $150 on it!"
That's just as bad as the 12 year olds and Rach 3...

Yamaha's upright is a great piano.  Give that a try and see what you think.  ;) Cheers.

Well, your lucky. Most cheap pianos that classical pianists would hate would be pretty good for your music style. However any cheap piano that is truly horrible won't be good for any style music. Try the piano before you buy it!

Oh. I just realised that this thread started more than a year ago, and you've probably already decided what to get. What did you decide on?
