 ;D

Really awesome.

What I want to hear in this study is a bell like tone -I want the melodic lines to be well articulated -musicality above flashiness -and you did all this perfectly -
When a search is in progress, something will be found.

I'm not particularly fond of the campanella, but I have to say you gave a magisterial performance!
I'm just curious, why are your recordings on youtube blacked out?  I mean why don't we see you play?  Are you that ugly?! ;D

I'm glad you asked.  I wondered about that, too.

Thanks!

My videos are black because I'm only interested in the music on these videos and youtube doe's not have an option to upload sound only files:)
(I hope I'm not too ugly anyway:))

As I am a filmmaker beside musician, I like to distinguish music from films. Here is my showreel for anyone interested, I am not on camera but behind it:)

Hi ariel,

Wow!  I think you outdid yourself in this rendition.  The articulation, evenness and touch control is amazing, and with this the clarity is near perfect.  You also played the dynamics and shadings very well which added much to musicality.  Pedaling was judicious too.  I cannot find anything to criticize.  This recording, in my opinion, sets a new benchmark here for"La Campanella".  Excellent work ariel, excellent!

You play this like a pro but what I don't understand is - why is your video all black?  I read what you said up in your post that you're only interested in the music in the videos. I don't get it.  When we can see you playing, it makes the whole performance more interesting, more entertaining.  It's like being in a concert.  When you have that black video and only the music, a big part of the entertainment is lost.  As you are a filmmaker, you should understand that very well.  How many people would like to go to the movies and look at a black screen while listening to what's going on in the movie?  Or how many people would attend a recital but only get to hear the music but not watch the performance? I wouldn't go.  Anybody else feel the same way I do?

I think you should post another video showing you on the piano playing this piece.

Hi
Doudly, thanks very much!
Sueyin,
I am sorry, there is no video. This is a sound recording. I just meant that I don't put anything on the video such as pictures or other things as I am only interested in the music here and there is no way to upload a sound only file to youtube.
think of it as a cd!
Thanks to all of you!!

Hi ariel,

Although I regularly do recordings, I have no interest in doing videos, as they seem to distract from the music content.  I have a large site on YouTube under Rachfan1.  What I do in preparing a "video" is to enter the audio track first. Then I attach a picture of the composer which remains visible on the video for its full duration. So the playing of the music pays homage to the composer, and displaying his picture for the viewers does likewise.  It works for me.

Seems to me if you can make a film, you can make a video of yourself.  And I don't agree that a video distracts at all.

Well, HE doesn't agree, and, rightly so, HE is the one who decides, so you might as well just suck it up really.

To me La Campanella is like a sort of dangerous and seductive lady in red. There is this hounting little bell melody that everybody loves, almost like "Für Elise". Everybody and their dog is tackling it but there are but a few who can really play it. I think I don't belong to those who can, but I also don't really have the urgent desire to play it, thanks god. I see the beauty of the lady, but to me she's a lady that just looks great. As soon as I try to have a halfway meaningful conversation with her she only repeats her four or five standard sentences. Her voice is wonderful, sure, but actually she's like a doll. And after a while her four or five standard sentences would just go eminently on my nerves!

Also, it's a really mean piece. I mean, what purpose is it written for? Only for the one and only purpose to make you look and sound bad as a pianist. Everybody will hear every tiny little slip, every little wrong note and every ever so slightest unevenness in the interpretation.

So why should I bother to listen to another campanella?

 ;)

Thank goodness my parents didn't raise me to use such language!  Anyway,  I said I didn't agree.  Obviously, he doesn't, nor do you, but that's not the point.  The point I was trying to make is that being able to watch someone perform ADDS to the experience and does not detract from it.  Why would people pay a lot of money to watch a performance at Carnegie Hall if they could just stay home and listen to their mp3?  Get it?

Oh, I do get you, qtpie, I feel transported to Carnegie Hall every time my gaze stumble on amateur-made, amateur-played pianistic offerings. What came to my mind, I shalt buy my season tickets now!

Technique and rhythm are almost flawless. With that, it takes care of the interpretation.

I felt that this performance was too heavy handed for my taste. With that technique and rhythm like that, anybody could play this piece.

If only I had that flawless technique and rhythm... :(

Well a CD sounds different from a live performance regardless if you can see or not.

Ariel IS a pro, isn't he?  If not, he should definitely enter Le Concours International de Grands Amateurs de Piano in Paris.

Thanks! Well, I have a music graduation degree from Tel Aviv Israeli music academy, so thats probably qualify, but I'm sure there are many "amateurs" that play better than me:)
