Piano concerto masterclass
on: April 17, 2012, 04:47:20 PM
Hi.

I have a few piano concertos in my repertoire, but it seems like I never get the chance to play them with an orchestra.

Are any of you aware of any masterclasses/festivals for this? Preferably in the beginning of 2013.

Thx!

hmm i have this one on my radar and i hope to be able to audition some time soon (in the next 4 years or so I hope), it runs in the summer but audition submissions for selection to be inthe performers masterclasses and for consideration in the concerto competion are pretty early i'd say around the beginning of the year (prob jan/feb maybe march 2013) for summer 2013 participation.

the artists they bring in to teach are top notch! and the amateur playing is superb, really at the highest levels differeing from professional only in 'name' and not quality for the most part.

held on the TCU campus (they have a fantastic music school/highly repsected piano program)

the young artists category is reserved for the truely elite, i mean those kids are bad asses. pure and simple.

the more reasonable and attractive option the amateur option still gives you unbelievable access to world acclaimed artists and great perfomance opportunities:
Regardless of age, profession and background, as long as you are an amateur pianist who enjoys music and loves playing the piano our program is just for you. The Amateurs Program is designed for adult, non-professional pianists who have an aspiration to keep learning and to experience the art of performing. Depending on the different levels and objectives of each individual participant, the program can be either fun and entertaining or highly intensive and demanding. Since the inception of the Amateurs Program in 1996, participants return repeatedly with growing confidence and fresh repertoire, not to mention the remarkable progress they demonstrate year after year. The camaraderie with other amateurs also creates a friendly atmosphere and a wonderful experience. You have a choice of attending as Performer, General Observer or Active Observer. Those who would like to attend portion of the program may enroll as General or Active Observers. In PianoTexas we have the program that is just right for you, just ask and we will respond. So join us - become a student again - and be inspired and share your love of music with fellow piano enthusiasts.

The Festival:

After the success of our 30th Anniversary program that focused on Beethoven, we are proud to continue this format with the music of Franz Schubert. Each of the recitals by our guest artists Paul Badura-Skoda, Inon Barnatan, Akiko Ebi, Simone Pedroni, and Yeuleum Son will present a major work by this great composer. A concert with Leon Fleisher, Katherine Jacobson Fleisher will feature works for four hands and Harold Martina and Tamás Ungár will perform the complete piano trios.

The Academy:

We are fortunate to have a vast and varied piano repertoire and we invite you to present your choice of works. Naturally as we are focusing on Schubert, we welcome and greatly encouraged you to bring any of his works for both master classes and private lessons. Similarly the chamber music sessions will feature not only the works of Schubert but a wide variety of works by other composers and for the first time in the history of PianoTexas we are introducing collaboration with voice through the selection of Schubert's wonderful lieder. Within the duration of the selected Amateurs Program participants have free access all other events listed in the Festival's general schedule.

Master Classes:
Traditionally, master classes have been very popular with amateurs as it is the best way to communicate ideas that are commonly beneficial to all. Amateurs receive one master class during their program. In order to allow greater variety and flexibility in balancing the repertoire, please provide a minimum of two works (concertos may be included) when completing the application. Playing from memory is optional and the repertoire presented for each master class, private lesson or recital could be the same or different. The Executive Director is responsible for the allocation of master classes and the repertoire, and his decisions are final. Participants who would like to play for certain guest artists may make their requests in writing, however, while these will be considered they cannot be guaranteed. We request that once the work for a Master Class is confirmed that it should not be changed.

Private Lessons:

In addition to the Master Class, each Amateur will receive two 60 minute private lessons. The repertoire presented in private lessons is the individual's choice. Participants may repeat the same piece played in the Master Class. Private Lessons are also the perfect time to discuss personal musical and technical matters in greater details. Additional private lessons may be possible at extra cost and should be arranged directly with the guest artist/teacher. The Executive Director is responsible for the allocation of all private lessons and his decisions are final.

Recitals:

PianoTexas Festival presents numerous opportunities to give everyone the chance to perform. Recitals are organized not only on the TCU campus (PepsiCo Recital Hall) but also in churches, museums, retirement communities and private homes. The repertoire is entirely free choice and playing from memory is not mandatory. All recitals are open to the public.

Hailed as one of the top summer piano festivals in the world, PianoTexas has been enriching the lives of Fort Worth residents and visitors for over 30 years

i need to plan way in advance for this, saving for tuition will take me longer than repertoire prep...

this is another good one with some great pianists from juliard, peabpody, eastman, etc.

again deadlines have past for audition but auditor deadline is open and concertos are not part of the masterclasses but can be brought in as works in progress to work with in lessons and such. another one 'in my backyard' sort of that i hope to try and catch one of these years...
