A Beginnerish Question From the Classical Dunce
on: May 05, 2012, 12:32:45 AM
A good while back I took a lesson with a teacher from the Cambridge Music Program (if that's what it's called?) And they basically spent the whol lesson evaluating my playing for a "grade". By the end, it was decided that I could play somewhere around grade six, though we apparently didn't have an "official" evaluation. So... is this good/bad? What kind of well-known pieces would someone at this grade play? They didn't tell much about it, so I'm really confused...

Good or bad? Well, that depends... have you been playing for a year or twenty?
Some grade six pieces are:
-Chopin's Mazurka in E minor
-Debussy's Reverie
-Dvorak's Humoresque
-Schubert's Traumerei
Use the search button in the forum for a more extensive list of repertory. There are plenty of those here.
Hope that helps.

You could have a look at a syllabus online and see what the exam pieces would be. I'd recommend the ABRSM syllabus - it's a good evaluation but still challenging.
