Silent piano or Digital
on: May 07, 2012, 10:11:04 AM
I have a very good vertical Yamaha piano, in excellent condition, bought more than 10 years ago. Its not silent, so even though I play on it regularly, I kind of feel self conscious about playing after 9pm because of the neighbours or spending an entire weekend on it.. I want to buy either a silent or a digital piano which allows me to use headphones.

I don't think I will be able to sell my old piano for the same price I bought it. Do any of you have experience with digital stuff? is it any good? It sounds like almost a sin to be selling a good piano for a digital, but really am tired of being the "show of the street" everytime I want to play.

Thanks

If you already have a nice piano, have you considered having the silent system installed to it?

I first posted this in the wrong thread.

There are small "cups" available for pianos. They are coonstructed in the same way as the ones used in the industry to put under heavy machenes to eliminate vibrations to the floor.
The piano cups are special made for pianos and work fine.
Ask your piano tech. I have seen them in Germany.

There are several retrofit systems that can be installed to an old piano. You can google but here's one option:
