Beethoven - "Spring Sonata" (Piano & Violin, Op.24, No.5) 1st & 4th mvts.- Enzo
on: May 30, 2012, 04:09:21 AM
Enzo, my son asked me to post this for comments and observations. I hope members will not mind as we feel the piano here is given equal prominence by Beethoven and not merely as violin accompaniment.
The 4th movement is played in a (much) faster manner and in a more energetic fashion than usual. Is this within tempo range and acceptable or preferably played in the usual slower and more free flowing way? The violinist is 14 year old Jeline.
Edit: June 6, 2012 - Below is the 1st movement played a month earlier than the 4th above.
THANKS for any observation or comment.

Thank you for posting this video! I LOVE violin/piano sonatas . . . maybe even better than piano solos.
I hadn't heard this piece before, so I can't say much about the tempo - only that I enjoyed listening to this performance by Lorenzo and the lovely violinist who played. Very nice!

Absolutely delightful!!!! The 'energetic' mood seems so natural and joyful for such a nice couple of performers
The violinist is very good, and sooo pretty!!!
Thank you for sharing.....

I have always loved this piece and enjoyed this performance immensely. I looked it up and the 4th movement, a rondo, is supposed to be played allegro ma non troppo, which Enzo and Jeline did very well. They captured the spirit of spring with their gracefulness, lightness and crispness. I could see flowers blooming and leaves opening up on a lovely spring day. Wonderful performance from Enzo and Jeline!

Congratulations to Enzo and Jeline for sparkling rendition of the "Spring Sonata". It was played very convincingly with joy, verve and sensitivity. Spendid!

Our heartfelt THANKS to EVERYONE (
David, Choo, Margh and fleetfingers
) for your encouraging responses. I am sure that with these positive comments Enzo feels more confident that his first forays into chamber music and as an accompanist rather than a soloist is in the right track.
THANKS!!!!

Ah the exuberance of youth! I'm glad Enzo is having the unparalleled experience of collaboration. It's a very bright, cheery performance reminding us it is SPRING and not AUTUMN! There are some nice aggressive Beethoven sf's in there. The only thing which might be lost in the aggressive tempo is some of the ornaments, and its sometimes a little brash for the mood I'm accustomed to in the movement, but I really did enjoy it all! Great job!

Dear Dave,
Thanks for your kind words, it is encouraging and insightful.
I am also taking this opportunity to post the 1st movement which was played about a month earlier.
Best wishes.

I have listened to it once and will want to listen again later. I notice how aggressive both movements are. I prefer a more pastoral approach to this piece. While in this it is a little rough around the edges, I think both Jeline and Enzo will be able to settle and mature into it. One of the joys of collaboration is moments like the trills coming out of the development being together. You can tell when performers know each other well when the trills even ritard together. That only comes with much experience together. I hope they will be able to play together some more in the future.
How about Enzo? Did he enjoy the experience?
