"Famous" amateur pianists
on: June 01, 2012, 10:58:09 AM
Can anyone think of some relatively well-known amateur pianists.

I can think of Condoleezza Rice.  What do you think of her playing?

There is also Alan Rusbridger, editor of the Guardian newspaper.

I'm afraid I have to exclude Donnie Yen, the Hong Kong action movie star.  I don't think his playing is up to scratch yet.
Beethoven - Sonata in C sharp minor, Op 27 No 12
Chopin - Fantasie Impromptu, Nocturn in C sharp minor, Op post
Brahms - Op 118, Nos 2 & 3

Helmut Schmidt, chancellor of West Germany 1974-82 (still alive at 93).  He played the easy 3rd piano part in an otherwise professional recording of the Mozart 3-piano concerto under Christoph Eschenbach, around 1980.
