Do you guys have online piano resources?
on: June 08, 2012, 04:02:46 AM
Hey guys, I'm teaching myself to play the piano and I've been to some websites about piano lessons but I don't think it's enough for self teaching, so if any of you guys have some piano resources that could give me I would really appreciate it. (Don't worry if you guys sent me a piano resource that I already know, I would also appreciate your effort.) :)

Assuming you are not talking about repertoire and theory resources, one of the real treasures online is Seymour Bernstein's series "You and the Piano", lessons based on his book WITH YOUR OWN TWO HANDS." Again, no advertising intended.

i'm reading this book called "fundamentals of piano practice" by Chuan Chang, although there are a number of people who are against his methods of practice and his technique, there are also people who have benefited from them, basically he suggests that we divide the piece into small sections and memorize them hands separate, then SLOWLY put them together... he gave a suggested a pracitce routine for Bach's invention #s 1, 4, and 8... i followed them and found them really helpful, but i have not done number 4 yet,,,

his book is downloadable in pdf form, just do a google search of it. good luck!

Some of his clues are helpful but the author claims that his book is "innovative", although it is not.

It is good that he recommends Bach and his inventions, and that he advice against Hanon and Czerny (but generally everybody who practise should know about it and it).

But I revised this book. It contains LOTS of nonsense claims. Don't believe blindly in everything what is read in it.

Best wishes

I teach piano online using Skype for quite some time and, believe it or not, I can witness faster improvements than with “traditional-in person” lessons (with the same students, of course).
It may be that the lesson is more focused ( no chit-chat, for ex.) , that the student has to pay more attention to instructions “from the other end of the cable”, or that he/she are alone with the instrument, without being distracted by a teacher-presence.
