A Song of Ice and Fire/ Game of Thrones
on: June 10, 2012, 11:26:33 PM
Wandering if more people here also like the series, or specially the books.

I watched the first season but haven't really dug into the second one, and i've seen there were quite a few changes in the plot.

I've just finished A Storm of Sword, the third book, and there is so much in it, things are happening everywhere every chapter...

I do!!!

My sister got me reading them just before the first season aired and I literally gobbled them up over the Christmas holidays. I've read them all and started rereading them, little bit at a time to pick up on the finer and subtle detail GRRM puts in.

So far who are you favourite characters? Mine are Ayra and Jon. Tyrion is quite a layered character, that while he's not a top favourite, he's never boring and Peter Dinklage will probably be winning awards for a few years to come.

Plus if you've any theories or conspiracies about the series, would love to hear them.

WOW, though no one would answer...  ;D ;D

Well let's start slow...

I'm starting to read a Feast for Crowns, that seems quite slow, but I'm reading then in portuguese first but I intend to buy the seven together in english to re-read them...

My favorite characters up to know are/were Ned (He is still awesome), Robb (though he is kind of far from the main view), Tyrion was awesome specially on the second book, Jon is great ( I have a great spoiler from the fifth though  :-[), for some reason i kind of enjoy Arya, but never as much as everybody, dunno why...

Jaime was also getting to get cool on the third book.

I think my main theory is about Jon's parents, if you want to know it i can talk about it, not sure if it's true though.

I'm currently near the end of a Clash of Kings, having firmly ensconced reading into my daily routine a few months ago. I'm enjoying it a lot. I didn't read any of the above posts for fear of spoilers, but I thought I'd say something  :)

No spoilers on then...

I really enjoys A Clash of Kings, even though people usually don't really like it... Though things don't stop happening on the third one for the whole book.

Good things come to those who wait  ;D
Sorry, been swamped doing things over the summer and haven't been on the forums for a while.

Well, in all honesty, I read each book on top of another, bar the latest one, so titles don't really help me to distinguish where each story ends.

In all honesty the theory you hold about Jon's parents is probably the only popular and accepted as fact by the fans despite it not being confirmed by GRRM. If that theory isn't true, it'll knock the majority of theories to hell.

Not gonna say too much as I don't want to spoil it on anyone who is not up to date with it all.

I am not reading this thread for fear of spoilers, but I figure that's no reason not to respond ::)

I watched the first two seasons of the show, and then started reading the books. I'm currently still on the first book--I read the first 700 pages on vacation in about 2 days a month or so ago, still haven't gotten around to finishing it...but I will finish at least through book 3 before I watch season 3 of the show, whenever that comes out, since I think the books (at least so far) are much better than the show.

Arya and Jon are my favorite characters and I have a pretty solid theory about Jon and his mother ;) I came up with it on my own, was like, "THIS IS SO AWESOME IT HAS TO BE TRUE", told my  brother, who told me that the theory I came up with was basically the predominate theory on the internet. So I'm not sure if I should feel smart that I independently came up with the theory that seems to be considered true, or feel stupid since everyone else thought of it too.

If it makes you feel better, before I even started reading the books, my sister gave me a cliff notes version regarding Jon. And as everyone one got cast for the first season, I kept being informed about the series. It got to a point where, I just told her to give me the books to read. So as I was reading the first I was already aware of the predominate theory about Jon and his parentage. So as I read I saw where people came up with it.

But that is only one theory among many others that a rapid within the books. They get so much spread out. For me recently, I have been mulling over things in the books every once in a while and my recent theory had to do with Benjen's mysterious and unfinished disappearance. Thought it was quite original only to find the basis of it was already being discussed online . Aspects differ as do opinions, it's not the end of the world. I think the reason certain theories are more popular than others is because, GRRM has put them there for us to pull our hair out over them and everyone has picked up on them.

Also, no character is ASOIAF, is padding, I think.  They all serve a purpose to whatever degree. Sorry if I am rambling.

I would definately recommend you read to the end of the third book. Might prepare you for what's to come in the tv series.
