What do you do for a living?

I live with my parents so I really don't have to do anything.

But the question was about what you do for a living, not whether or not you have to do anything for a living!

Doing a post-doc in mathematics, so mathematician.  Working in algebraic combinatorics (CMT, CCA, words) and algebraic geometry (tropical, arithmetic, enumerative, K-Theory/Group Cohomology, GIT).

I'm still in school, but hopefully when I'm older I'll be able to become a governor.

You should probably avoid being a lingerie model before you become governor.  Notice that Thal isn't governor right now.  Yet he is a lingerie model.  It's not a coincidence.

Do you think you could do my math homework next school season?  I somehow managed to get recommended for AP calc BC next year, and apparently it's the hardest class in the school.  Maybe I could send you some problems during tests, and you could solve them for me!

School teacher. Not of music, mind you. In between the stresses of managing a bunch of rebellious, hormone-infused kids and juggling several other hobbies, it leaves me with little time for music, unfortunately. :-)

Mathematics is every bit as beautiful as art or music. When I was a kid I wanted to be an astronomer. Alas, I turned out way too dumb in math for it. :-)

Even Debussy used math in his music!

I wouldn't know. Bach is often held up as being sort of mathematical, and maybe it is; there seems to be a certain cool, aloof beauty to his work. What makes it really great is that apart from that, his music also has a very human heart. But I would guess writing a really complex fugue requires a bit of a mathematician.

Not that I know much about math. I must be something of a rarity: I thoroughly suck at math, but wish I didn't, because whenever I get a glimpse of its beauty and elegance it moves me as much as anything else does. I guess I'm a nerd. :-)

Indeed, but take too many sips of the wrong libations and it will inevitably impact negatively on your ninja skills. Always remember that soft drinks are potentially harmful and must be diluted with alcohol to render them safe. :-)

I'm a software engineer at Videon Central. Basically we write the brains of blu-ray players and other similar applications. The job requires a lot from me, so much that it definitely encroaches upon the piano passion---but not enough to crowd out still enjoying the heck out of it. Fortunately I'm passionate about software engineering as well, so it's working out for me. I recently realized I'd never really worked hard at anything, programming or music related, so the practical choice is to begin working hard at what puts food on the table. Music is still there and always will be, but I won't be dazzling a concert hall any time soon  :)

Based on what I see above, maybe the question should be changed. "Are you receiving some sort of government handout?" (Food stamps, welfare or getting a paycheck...)

Oh I'm terrible with math too but for some reason I'm okay when it's used in physics and astronomy. My math grades so far have been my lowest but physics and astronomy are my highest.
And there's always time for amateur astronomy! I know many people back home at the Cincinnati observatory who followed their passion for astronomy.

i'm actually a professor of astrophysics--but not chad's!  (I'm an observer, not a theoretician, and study the birth of stars).  Is it odd that so many people on this board are into the mathematical sciences?  --s.
