Yamaha CP33 vs Kawai MP6
on: June 13, 2012, 07:53:55 AM
I am considering these two stage pianos.

The primary use is for silent practice with headphones, classical music only. The action should be as realistic as possible, and good enough to develop technique and finger strength for use real acoustic pianos.

I have tried the CP33 in a store. I haven't tried any Kawais yet.

Can someone comment on how these two compare, especially regarding the action?

Thanks in advance!

I'm sorry no one has chimed in.  Probably it's because it's a difficult question to answer.  The MP6 is more expensive and maybe somewhat higher end piano and the RH action is very respected.  At the same time, the CP33 has a fine GH action from Yamaha.  Plenty of people would vote for each side on this one.  Unfortunately you are going to have to try and Kawai before you will know which action you prefer.

I will say that I personally prefer the sound of the CP33, despite the fact that it's a pretty old model. Actionwise...I'd ten to give the edge to Kawai I guess.

By the way, Kawai just came out with the ES7, a new piano with an action similar to the MP6.  Some new sound processing and there is a third sensor in the action, which allows faster repetition.  I don't know what it's going to sell for, but if you are looking at these two, you might consider the new kid on the block.  It really seems like a winner to me, based on the specs.
