Perhaps they just got lucky with this one, although I kind of refuse to believe that.

I doubt they got lucky with that one.  They probably have a lot more pianos just as good as that one, as well as every other brand.

I'm talking about the medium, not the crazy bagillion dollar pianos that either sit in showcases, or rich people's houses collecting dust.

Are you sure?  I think Steinway is not the most expensive brand.  From what I know, the Bechstein, Bluthner, Bosendorfer and Fazioli all price their pianos higher than Steinway.  And I'm talking about Hamburg Steinways too.

I'm talking about the price quoted in catalogues/showrooms.  It might be that it is in practice possible to get huge discounts on Bechstein, Bluthner, Bosendorfer and Fazioli, but not on Steinway, so Steinway still works out to be more expensive than the others.  I'm just guessing as I have no experience of buying such expensive pianos.

It was a used one, built 1975, for ~75.000€ I believe. I haven't had the chance to play on an instrument more expensive than 100k€ (~100k would have been a new steinway iirc) yet. Though I did play on a blüthner and bechstein that cost roughly around 40.000€ (~60k$), which I think they were pretty good but nothing special.
I didn't buy any of those either just took the chance of (extensively) testing them in the showroom.

I understand what you are saying.
Good.

I drink 3 pints of beer every day.
That's your problem - if indeed it is a problem...

I can quite easily stop myself from drinking by simply desisting from doing so
Indeed - so why not try it?...

but that does not of itself necessarily have to mean that I should not drink and comment on the pointlessness of alcohol should I so choose.
No, I suppose that it doesn't, but a different thread would surely be best for such a purpose, would it not?

Welcome to Lisitsa Anonymous.
Quoi? What does the above have to do with her?

That's irrelevant.

Just because Bosendorfer has been around before Steinway, doesn't mean that it's a better brand.

You may think they sound good, but I think they sound terrible.
I didn't say that their greater longevity conferred upon them greater kudos per se; I merely pointed out that those of which I have had experience have impressed me immensely and are the kinds of piano to which I warm when I think of how my own piano music might best be represented.

You can't use one piano to present any statistical significance.
Indeed not, but I can cite several to do just that - and I'm not even a pianist but I do know a thing or four about what works! Whenever I've laid fingers on one of these beasts I've seriously chided myself for not being a pianist!

No, I do not have any shares in the company...

Well apparently you thought wrong.

I played on a 250k Fazioli after a salon concert, and I thought it was a good piano, jeez...

ALMOST ultimate irrationality!

I don't think we crossed the line just yet!  Because piano street has seen the likes of worse threads.

Lisitsaholism is comparable to alcoholism in many ways.  In its internet form, it manifests itself in two main ways:  firstly, in the disproportionately high number of times her videos have been viewed on Youtube.  Simply type the name of a piece of music for which she has uploaded a video, and you can guarantee that this video has been viewed the most number of times, often up to 2 to 3 times as frequently as recordings by masters like Rubinstein and Horowitz.  Secondly, on internet forums such as that of Piano Street, you only need to put the word Lisitsa in the thread to guarantee the maximum number of views and replies, regardless of the merit of the thread.

Listsaholism is arguably more serious than alcoholism in that many of its sufferers live in denial of their addiction: they have a tendency to pontificate on the pointlessness of it while indulging in their vice, whether consciously or unconsciously.

I think I might have made out with Lisitsa in the back of a rebuilt Corvair at the Blue Moon Drive In in Glendale, WV two years ago.  Not sure.  But think so.

Forgot to mention that after Lisitsa and I left the Blue Moon Drive-In, she asked to drive my rebuilt, standard transmission, processed blue Corvair.  Of course, I let her, but had to caution her to stop calling the brake pedal, the "sostenuto" pedal.  Silly girl!  She owes me a phone call, by the way, rach.  Very bad at keeping in touch, so be warned.

p.s. every time someone admires my car, I say, "Valentina Lisitsa slept here!"  They are incredibly impressed, and usually say, in astonishment, "your car, TOO?"

With regards to getting the most traffic by placing her name in the thread, you must be fair and remove rach from the thread as he alone constitutes at least half of the total posts.

Reminds me of that video/song one of my hiphop friends did a few years back.. (he was about 20 at the time)

I'd post it, but its content is sooo far outside PG that I'm not even going to consider it..
