I am going to apply for a music school in Sweden next year and I am practicing new pieces to play for the Entry test.
At the time of the test, I should be prepared to play four freely selected pieces from different eras and of different character.

What pieces should I choose to play ? (In 3 hours total time I can learn to play a Level 2-3 piece very well and memorize it so something in between level 3 & 5 maybe?)

So far I have chosen 2 pieces, L.v.Beethovens Moonlight Sonata 1st movement & J.S.Bach Prelude No.1 (BWV 846). From the classical and baroque eras. these are rated at level 7-8(?) but these are the easier parts of the full pieces.

What are the most common music pieces Beginning students play?

You can chose whatever you want, except those two pieces. I was member of the jury in my old school, and whenever someone entered and said that they would play any of them, everyone stopped listening, because everyone knows they wont be played very well. Even if you play them well, it will give a bad impression to chose the two pieces that are that overy played. I guess your going to apply to a folkhögskola?

Better to play the mozart sonata you're playing and a slow scarlatti sonata. The prelude wont show anything, neither will Moonlight 1st, unless you play the whole sonata. And never ever pick a piece because they are the easier part of something. It's as stupid as not playing something because it's easy.

This is why I started this topic so thanks for your advice. And I don't play something because it´s easy, it's just that I mostly play what I like.
