Hi everyone!

I really need your help: I'm honored to be performing at one of the biggest conventions in Toronto and I figured a jazz piece would be perfect! Problem is: it needs to be no more that 90 seconds (yep- you read correctly: 90 FREAKING SECONDS), composed by a composer who's been dead for 50 years (aka not copyrighted), and oh gosh darn amazing. I mean, if not jazzy, I could always play Rach's version of the Flight of the Bumble Bee (it's always up my sleeve) or one of Gershwin's Preludes (which one: #1 or 3?). But I just know people will respond more to something jazzy and funky (Gershwin is fine too. I just like to learn new things and I could play the Preludes in my sleep). Also, it needs to be performed on July the 10th, but technique and memorization is not ever a problem (as long as it's not Alkan)... So if anyone could suggest anything, that would be really appreciated!!

This is my first question on Piano Street... Really excited!!  ;D

Thanks everyone!
~Staicy S.
PS- I'm a professional Classical musician, so no- I don't play Chopsticks. Just in case anyone was asking... ;)

Hmmm, that's a tough one.

Maybe tiger rag by Art Tatum?  It's like two in a half minutes long but if you cut out a couple measures, you could make it work.  Tiger Rag ALWAYS brings down the house! 8)

Not that it's jazzy but I tend to find Chopins Bb minor prelude to be short and make a reasonable impact on the masses.

There's an arrangment of flight of the bumblebee called "bumble boogie" that might suit - though may not be technically ballsy enough for you. Not sure about copyright for that either?

Jelly Role Morton's 'The Crave' Seems to fit the bill perfectly.  The thing plays like Chopin/Rachmaninoff in spots, shoudl be up your alley.

Morton passed in 1941 so it should be in PD

Another option , but it would really be stretching the 'public domain' composer category since the source material is Mozart but the re-arrangment is 'modern' by Fazil Say (will they allow a modern arranger but a public domain composer? you'd probably really have to dig around to really find out what the conveiton kids are comfortable with i think they don't want to have to pay anyone any royalties sounds like),
