Fur Elise
on: July 10, 2012, 08:55:10 PM
Hello all,

I need to re-transcribe Fur Elise for a book I'm creating.  I've seen versions in 3/8 and in 3/4.  Which one is correct?  I know you can use both and both make sense but my question is do any of you know what the original time signature is that Beethoven use?

Any help would be great.

Thanks!     8)

I'm pretty sure it's 3/8

3/8 is the original.. I've seen sheet music that has laid it out in 3/4 which is a little easier for beginners to read.

Probably depends on who your audience is.  Purists will want to see 3/8, but students will appreciate less 32nd notes with the 3/4 version.  ;)

"Furry Leaves" is a vastly  overplayed piece of fluff.  From Beethoven's correspondence that I've read, no one by the name of "Elise" pops up.  It could have been "Therese" though.  I haven't seen the original but 3/8 makes more sense than 3/4 - at least to the music.
