Liszt: Paysage - Tre corde?
on: July 15, 2012, 10:38:45 AM
I'm practicing this etude (I'll have the last page down soon), but am quite confused to whether I am ever supposed to switch to tre corde.

In the middle, at the climax, it asks for fortissimo. Surely this should/can not be executed with the una corda pedal?

I have an urtext edition, and it never asks for me not to use una corda. I've seen another non-urtext edition though, where it indeed asks for three cords.

The next problem, if I do choose tre corde, when should I go back to una corda? When it goes back to the original theme in the ending sequence?

Thanks in advance!

I'm assuming you're playing on a grand, otherwise you can ignore the una corda entirely.

You can play the ff with the una corda pedal down, it will still be loud.

Otherwise, you can use the una corda pedal with some discretion, maybe ditch it for the middle section entirely, or use it only for the bits marked dolce?  Do what sounds best to you.
