Wish I could join in, but I don't yet have the skills needed (although I have learned the Barcarolle, but still...).


Have you heard the three pieces from op. 12? They seem very playable, especially the last two of them.
Truly exciting stuff to listen to, and not just for connoisseurs like most of us in here, I reckon.

There is quita a number of pieces by Alkan that should be within the range of intermediate pianists, many more if you are in any way advanced, and you still have a year to work on it.

I assume you mean the Op 65 Barcarolle; why not enter in with that, or one of the other Barcarolles, or a nocturne, or a prelude or one of the esquisses?

Why don't try this Prelude?  I find it as disturbing as beautiful, and it's technically manageable

Costicina: Thank you, but I honestly don't like that prelude. Many, but certainly not all, of Alkan slow/simple pieces sound quite boring to me.

One of the Three Bravura Improvs? That's quite a spectacular leap up from the Barcarolle.

Huh, no one has mentioned anything of Op. 35 (judging from a quick glance of the thread, it seems).

I'm picking op 35 no 3. So far it isn't THAT bad. I'm currently able to play trough the repeat and about to start on the left hand section.
That crazy offbeat section in the middle is going to be real fun though.

My teacher doesn't want me picking up any new pieces at the moment but I think one piece behind her back is no big deal right? A small one, mayBe a short prelude?

That piece is a hell of a lot of fun, I've played all but the last bit with all the runs.
It's annoying but it is so much fun!
