How much does music theory affect technique?

I don't think it would really affect it that much if at all. I don't really see how it could.

It can however change how you look at a piece of music. Instead of just seeing notes on a page, you will start to see patters, chords, scales, cadences, and will help to improve your sight reading abilities, and make music that much more enjoyable, because you will have a clearer understanding of what the composer is doing.

.......pretty sure that was one heck of a run on sentence.

..  Indirectly, quite significantly i guess.

Since technique is impacted by the amount of music you learn, and theory impacts how quickly you can learn and/or create music..
